Five Ways To Make Your Videos More Engaging

Video is one of the internet’s most popular forms of content. But keeping your audience’s attention for videos you created can prove challenging. Here are five tips from our production coordinator to ensure that your video makes the cut:

Start with a strong concept

Ensuring a video has a great foundation is crucial. Work with your team to develop an attention-grabbing concept. While brainstorming, keep a few things in mind: Your video should resonate with your audience; production should stay within your established budget; and your video should function well in the medium on which it will appear, whether that is social media, a website or email. Each medium is different, so talk with your team about what would work best.

Keep your team in the loop

Communication, especially in preproduction, is one of the most important aspects of creating your video. With so many moving parts and pieces, it is easy to get lost in the chaos. Start by establishing a production plan. From there, communicate with your team often. This lessens the chance of details slipping through the cracks. Remember, you’d rather overcommunicate than undercommunicate.

Have a backup plan

Expect the best but plan for the worst. Creating a backup plan isn’t always glamorous, but it is important to have one in case circumstances change. What if it rains? What if your lead actor gets sick? You never know what might happen once the cameras start rolling, so always be prepared.

Coverage is key

Coverage is the compilation of shots used to capture a scene. The more coverage you have for a video, the more options you will have to choose from when you begin editing. It is always a good idea to have more shots to choose from than not enough. So don’t be afraid to get an extra close-up or wide shot — it can end up helping your content in the end.

Edit away!

It is important to meticulously analyze each cut of your video! Watch it multiple times and focus on different aspects. Does the story make sense? Is the audio too loud? Does it convey the message you want to send to your audience? Take your time when reviewing and discuss creative changes with your team. This is your time to really make your concept come to life.
